Amar Kanwar’s art is deeply rooted in the post-colonial history of the Indian subcontinent, still marked by the nationalist and religious conflicts that worsened with the Partition in 1947. The films and multimedia installations he creates explore the dynamics of power, violence and justice, recounting the internal exodus of millions of Muslims and Hindus, the diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, and the repeated violations of human and environmental rights perpetrated in the name of the development of the region.
