THE NEW ACQUISITIONS OF FONDAZIONE PER L’ARTE MODERNA E CONTEMPORANEA CRT AT ARTISSIMA 2023

THE NEW ACQUISITIONS OF FONDAZIONE PER L’ARTE MODERNA E CONTEMPORANEA CRT AT ARTISSIMA 2023

Acquisition of 12 works of art by 6 artists for the benefit of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Torino.

Torino, 3 November 2023 – Once again this year, the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT has expanded its collection by acquiring, during the 2023 edition of Artissima, 12 new works by 6 artists, destined, as always, for public use: important works by Steffani Jemison, Marwa Arsanios and Cemile Sahin will join the permanent collection of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT and go on long-term loan to Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, while  works by Lorenza Boisi, Francesco Cavaliere and Alessandro Pessoli will go on long-term loan to GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Torino.

For more than 20 years, the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, an “art-oriented” institution of the Fondazione CRT, has been one of the main partners of the international art fair Artissima, which it supports through various contributions, the most significant of which is related to the acquisitions campaign; this in the firm belief that Artissima represents an extraordinary opportunity for the city of Torino to confirm and consolidate its role on the international scene. So much so that, for this 2023 edition, the Foundation has decided to increase the historic acquisition fund to 200,000 euro, invested in the purchase of works with a commercial value of 281,200 euro.

“On the occasion of Artissima’s 30th year, the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT confirms its support, increasing the budget for acquisitions at the art fair to EUR 200,000. The works purchased this year were chosen through a careful selection process, carried out by the Foundation’s new Scientific Committee, in synergy with the directors and chief curators of the Castello di Rivoli and GAM. The works are destined for the two museums in order to enrich their collections in line with their respective strategies and programming,” comments Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, president of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT.

The Foundation supports the galleries and artists present at the art fair through the acquisition of works, thus contributing to the growth of an extensive collection of contemporary art works, today among the most prestigious: more than 900 works ranging from painting to sculpture, from video to photography, from large installations to NFT, created by around 300 artists – for a total investment of more than 40 million euros. In confirmation of the Foundation’s mission, the works that become part of its collection are immediately made available to the community through the commodity loan to the two museums for their respective exhibition activities and for loans to other institutions, allowing Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea a continuous updating of their exhibitions and a constant dialogue with the main players on the international art scene.

The new Scientific Committee of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT will be present at Artissima for the first time, comprised of: Hans Ulrich Obrist (Artistic Director Serpentine Galleries, London), Susanne Pfeffer (Director Museum MMK für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt), Suhanya Raffel (Director Museum M Plus, Hong Kong), Manuel Segade Lodeiro (Director Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid) and Vicente Todolì (Artistic Director Fondazione Pirelli Hangarbicocca, Milan).

As the Foundation’s long-standing advisory body on acquisitions, the Committee participated in the choice of acquisitions at the art fair, in synergy with the Directors and Chief Curators of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and the GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, and selected works that will further enhance the artistic heritage of both museums, centres of excellence in Piedmont and pivotal points in bringing art to a wide and heterogeneous public, locally, nationally and internationally.

On the subject of the acquisitions, the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT stated: The new Scientific Committee of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT met for the first time in Torino on the occasion of the International Artissima Art Fair. We are happy to be able to work with the Board of Directors of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT and with the new Directors of the Castello di Rivoli (Francesco Manacorda) and of the GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Torino (Chiara Bertola). We commit ourselves now, and over the next few years, to help define a new trajectory for the CRT collection, so that the works of art it contains can reflect the diversity and inclusion of our time.”
