SUPERCONDOMINIO6 – Paradis

The 6th edition of Supercondominio will be held on Saturday August the 31st and Sunday September the 1st, at 11 am at the Rittana Multifunctional Centre (Cuneo): it will be a meeting of European production and promotion of contemporary art originated at the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art where the first five editions were held. For the first time ever, with the support of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, this unprecedented edition takes on a European dimenision.

“The Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT” says President Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo “is pleased to welcome and support the 6th edition of Supercondominio, an opportunity for artists to meet and discuss residencies, a topic dear to the Foundation and a linchpin of the Radis project. For the first time, the event, Supercondominio6 – Paradis is open to other countries, blending local and European contexts, focusing both on the community and the international scene: ten independent contemporary art spaces have been invited to Rittana as well as three artists who will be sharing their aims, experiences and stories with both audiences and community”.

Supercondominio6 – Paradis is curated by Treti Galaxie, an art project founded by Matteo Mottin and Ramona Ponzini, part of the Radis public program. It will be held in the areas involved in the art project in public spaces and has been developed in cooperation with the Fondazione CRC. Supercondominio6 – Paradis aims to promote dialogue between and among spaces and artists to favour debate and enhance mutual knowledge, new synergies and cooperation to be shared in events with the public.

“Supercondominio is the yearly meeting of the Italian independent spaces created in 2018 by curators Caterina Molteni and Laura Lecce” stated Treti Galaxie, “In times of geopolitical uncertainty, such as ours, after five editions promoted and hosted by the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, the event’s format is being transformed, changing venue and format: among the glades and refuges near Rittana on the Cottian Alps, five Italian residence projects have been invited to spend a weekend together with five other similar projects active in other European countries. The context will be that of free dialogue and mutual understanding fostered by research on the body, words and experiences presented by artists Martina Rota, Allison Grimaldi Donahue and Luca De Leva. We hope new ideas and future cooperation may develop thus supporting a new generation’s artistic research.”

There will be five Italian participant groups and five from abroad: AiR 351 (Cascais, Portugal), K.A.I.R. (Košice, Slovakia), Koraï (Nicosia, Cyprus), Rupert (Vilnius, Lithuania), Spiritvessel (Espinavessa, Spain), as well as CRIPTA747 (Turin), In-ruins (Calabria,), Studio Rizoma (Palermo), Pianpicollo Selvatico (Levice, Cuneo), Unpae (Roccacaramanico, Pescara) from Italy: they will exchange ideas on artists residences. Unconventional approaches to how we relate to public spaces will be pursued, developing non standard art venues, with activities taking place in areas far from official circuits; meetings and exchanges with the public and the communities of reference will also be included. In the two day event artists Luca De Leva, Allison Grimaldi Donahue and Martina Rota will also present their research with dialogical moments, performative readings and performances focussing on the body, the word and experience.

Activities will take place in the town of Rittana and the Paraloup Hamlet, and will spread out to neighbouring areas with walks, meetings and open air meals. For two days the representatives of the projects and the artists will experience the area with the local community, livening the hamlet with talks, presentations and performances.

Supercondominio6 – Paradis will open at 11 am on Saturday the 31st of August at the Rittana Multifunctional Centre when visitors will be welcomed and participant spaces presented. In the afternoon, starting at 2:30 pm, there will be an open exchange, followed by a visit to the L’opera al nero, the collective exhibition of works belonging to Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT and Fondazione CRC, curated by Marta Papini and Leonardo Pietropaolo, with artist Giulia Cenci. At 4:30 pm Martina Rota’s performance at the Chiot Rosa, followed by another open exchange. A presentation of Thyself Agency by Luca De Leva will be held between 5:30 and 6:30 at the Chiot Rosa, closing the day’s events.

Supercondominio6 will finish on Sunday September the 1^st: at 10:30in the morning Allison Grimaldi Donahue’s poetic readings at the Paraloup Hamlet followed by yet another open exchange. The closing speeches will be held after the lunch break. All appointments and events are open to the public.

Supercondominio6 – Paradis is part of the schedule of the summer meetings of Radis’ public program, to make the public more aware of Giulia Cenci’s artistic practice. Her work is a sculpture that the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT will leave on permanent loan (commodatum) to the Town of Rittana that will be unveiled on October the 6th 2024 at 3 pm in the Chiot Rosa (Rittana).

The aim of the Radis Project was and is to enrich the Piedmontese region with a wealth of public works for the communities. The Project also includes educational programmes, public meetings and exhibition projects to return part of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT’s collection to the community. The format of the first edition was organised jointly with the Fondazione CRC in the Stura Valley, between the Municipality of Rittana and the Hamlet of Paraloup, specifically at Chiot Rosa, a glade studded with birch trees at 1200 m asl.

Torino, 2 settembre 2024. Si è concluso con successo Supercondominio6 – Paradis, l’assemblea degli spazi europei di produzione e promozione dell’arte contemporanea, che ha visto raccogliersi a Rittana il 31 agosto ed il1 settembre i rappresentanti di dieci spazi europei dedicati alle residenze d’artista.

Supercondominio è un progetto nato al Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea – dove si sono tenute le prime cinque edizioni – su iniziativa dell’allora Direttore Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, ideato con Caterina Molteni e Laura Lecce – per la prima volta sostenuto in questa sesta edizione dalla Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, e per la prima volta aperto a una dimensione europea.

Supercondominio6 – Paradis, curato da Treti Galaxie, art project fondato da Matteo Mottin e Ramona Ponzini, si inserisce nell’ambito del public program di Radis e si è tenuto sabato 31 agosto e domenica 1 settembre tra il Comune di Rittana e Borgata Paraloup, estendendosi ai territori limitrofi attraverso passeggiate – tra cui una alla Borgata Paraloup in compagnia dell’Architetto Giovanni Barberis, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Nuto Revelli – incontri e pranzi all’aperto, nei territori che coinvolgono il progetto di arte nello spazio pubblico che la Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT ha realizzato in collaborazione con la Fondazione CRC.

“Supercondominio6 – Paradis è stato ospitato per la prima volta in un contesto non istituzionale, e riteniamo che l’accoglienza, la cura e la passione delle persone e delle Associazioni dei territori di Rittana siano state fondamentali alla sua ottima riuscita” dichiara Treti Galaxie. “Siamo grati a Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT per averci affidato la curatela del progetto e per la fiducia accordataci nella rielaborazione del suo format: per la prima volta Supercondominio ha assunto una dimensione internazionale, si è aperto al dialogo attivo con gli artisti, e si è svolto in più sedi: il Centro Incontri del Comune di Rittana, il Chiot Rosa e Borgata Paraloup, ma anche informalmente in una pizzeria di Torino, nell’abitacolo di un bus turistico, durante una passeggiata non programmata su un sentiero montano. Momenti apparentemente marginali ma fondamentali alla costruzione di amicizie e nuovi progetti. Inoltre, per la prima volta l’evento si è tenuto in lingua inglese, nonostante gli invitati fossero di madrelingua greca, spagnola, portoghese, slovacca e italiana. Riteniamo che l’importante, nella comunicazione umana, non sia tanto il linguaggio quanto il messaggio: per questo motivo abbiamo deciso di intitolare il progetto ‘Paradis’, una parola che contiene ‘Radis’, e che, nelle lingue sopra citate, per assonanza richiama un termine conosciuto e facilmente identificabile da tutte e tutti. Oltre ai progetti e agli artisti coinvolti, a Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, alla sua Presidente Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, a Grazia Sechi e Leonardo Pietropaolo, alla curatrice di Radis Marta Papini, ci teniamo a ringraziare il Comune di Rittana, nella persona del Sindaco Giacomo Doglio, le associazioni Kosmoki e Montagna Futura, Autonoleggio B&B, Borgata Paraloup e Fondazione Nuto Revelli per la calorosa accoglienza. Ci teniamo inoltre a ringraziare l’artista Martina Rota, che per cause di forza maggiore non è riuscita a partecipare all’evento.”

Questo originario richiamo all’orizzontalità ha trovato espressione e conferma nelle tematiche emerse durante le molte discussioni avvenute durante il fine settimana: nonostante le differenze geografiche, di natura giuridica e di scala istituzionale, i progetti hanno trovato un comune terreno di confronto su temi quali la funzione della presenza fisica degli artisti nei progetti di residenza, l’arricchimento dato dall’esperienza diretta di luoghi non familiari, e le potenzialità offerte dai territori decentrati.

Alla sesta edizione di Supercondominio hanno partecipato cinque realtà italiane e cinque provenienti dal resto dell’Europa: AiR 351 (Cascais, Portogallo),  K.A.I.R. (Košice, Slovacchia), Koraï (Nicosia, Cipro), Rupert (Vilnius, Lituania), Spiritvessel (Espinavessa, Spagna), CRIPTA747 (Torino), In-ruins (Calabria), Studio Rizoma (Palermo), Pianpicollo Selvatico (Levice, CN), Unpae (Roccacaramanico, PE) – dialogando sul tema della residenza d’artista e trattando approcci non convenzionali di relazione con lo spazio pubblico, di attivazione di luoghi per l’arte non canonici, di svolgimento delle attività in territori lontani dai circuiti ufficiali e di creazione di momenti di incontro e dialogo con il pubblico e le comunità di riferimento. Oltre ai collettivi, nel corso della due giorni sono intervenuti anche gli artisti Luca De Leva e Allison Grimaldi Donahue per presentare la loro ricerca attraverso momenti dialogici, letture performative e performance, dedicati ai temi corpo, parola ed esperienza
