In the Event of Sculpture, 2009

One of the fundamental aspects of Kasia Fudakowski’s sculpture is a dialogue with the comedic mechanism. The artist herself has stated, in an interview with Judith Vrancken: “Specifically I started to be interested in the relationship between joke construction and the construction of sculpture.” The parallel deals with the need, in both realms, to employ continuous advancements and breakthroughs to move against the pre-established limits of language, in an attempt to bypass, leap over and overturn all given codes and categories. It is as if to say that someone who says the obvious and the known does not make you laugh, and someone who creates while slavishly respecting the artistic tradition fails to achieve any significant result.
