{"id":5925,"date":"2020-11-23T20:52:15","date_gmt":"2020-11-23T19:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fondazioneartecrt.it\/artista\/mat-collishaw-3\/"},"modified":"2021-07-12T15:09:54","modified_gmt":"2021-07-12T13:09:54","slug":"mat-collishaw","status":"publish","type":"artista","link":"https:\/\/fondazioneartecrt.it\/en\/artist\/mat-collishaw\/","title":{"rendered":"Mat Collishaw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>One of&#10;the group <span>of Young British <\/span>Artists&#10;who gained renown <span>after <\/span>the 1988&#10;exhibition <i>Freeze<\/i>, <span>Matt Collishaw<\/span><span> <\/span><span>decided<\/span><span> <\/span><span>to<\/span><span> <\/span><span>distance<\/span><span> <\/span><span>him<\/span>self<span> <\/span>from<span> <\/span>the<span> <\/span>sensationalism<span> <\/span>of<span> <\/span><span>his <\/span>early<span>&#10;<\/span><span>work,<\/span><span> <\/span>and<span> <\/span>to<span> <\/span>focus<span>&#10;<\/span>on<span> <\/span>a<span> <\/span>more ambiguous equilibrium <span>between&#10;<\/span>beauty and<span> <\/span>disquietude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#10;&#10;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>Many of his <span>photographic <\/span>and <\/span><span>video<span> <\/span>works<span>&#10;<\/span>unite<span> <\/span>an<span> <\/span>eye<span> <\/span>educated<span> <\/span>in<span> <\/span>the<span> <\/span><span>classics<\/span><span> <\/span>of<span> <\/span>art<span> <\/span>history<span>&#10;<\/span><span>with <\/span>a subtle malaise with Victorian overtones.<span> <\/span>One<span> <\/span>of<span> <\/span>the<span> <\/span>first<span> <\/span>series of<span> <\/span>photographs<span> <\/span>in<span> <\/span>this<span> <\/span>new<span> <\/span>direc<span>tion,<\/span><span> <\/span><span>begun<\/span><span> <\/span><span>around<\/span><span> <\/span><span>the<\/span><span> <\/span><span>mid-1990s, <\/span><span>includes<\/span><span> <\/span><span>numerous<\/span><span>&#10;<\/span><span>shots<\/span><span> <\/span><span>of<\/span><span> <\/span><span>lily<\/span><span> <\/span><span>and <\/span>amaryllis<span> <\/span>flowers<span>&#10;<\/span>as<span> <\/span>symbols<span> <\/span>of<span> <\/span>a&#10;diseased<span> <\/span>sexuality: &#8220;I<span> <\/span>was<span>&#10;<\/span>inspired by<span> <\/span>a<span> <\/span>19<span>th<span> <\/span><\/span>century<span> <\/span>dandy<span> <\/span>who<span> <\/span>became<span>&#10;<\/span>this<span> <\/span>obsessive<span> <\/span>collector<span> <\/span>of <span>flowers<\/span><span> <\/span>and<span>&#10;<\/span><span>locked<\/span><span> <\/span><span>himself<\/span><span> <\/span><span>away<\/span><span> <\/span>in his<span>&#10;<\/span>mansion<span> <\/span>with<span> <\/span>them. The<span> <\/span><span>deca<\/span>dence<span> <\/span>got<span> <\/span>to<span> <\/span>such<span> <\/span>a<span> <\/span>point<span> <\/span>that<span>&#10;<\/span><span>his <\/span>flowers<span> <\/span>became<span>&#10;<\/span>diseased,<span> <\/span>like<span> <\/span>his <span>m<\/span><span>i<\/span><span>n<\/span>d<span> <\/span><span>w<\/span><span>a<\/span>s<span> <\/span><span>s<\/span><span>i<\/span><span>c<\/span><span>k<\/span><span>e<\/span><span>n<\/span><span>i<\/span><span>n<\/span><span>g<\/span>&#8230;<span> I <\/span><span>t<\/span><span>h<\/span><span>o<\/span><span>u<\/span><span>g<\/span><span>h<\/span>t it<span> <\/span>was<span> <\/span>a<span> <\/span>good<span> <\/span>image<span> <\/span>to<span> <\/span>work<span> <\/span><span>on.&#8221;
